The cemetery and the medusa

At the far end of the great upper galleries are two charming series of concretions :

The Cemetery, which consists of a group of several hundred fine white "needle or straw" stalactites, some of which are more than 3 metres long.

They hang above a floor covered with white stalagmites and crystals suggesting candles or tombstones, which explains the name given by the first explorers.

The isolation and majesty of the site make it one of the most charming places in the Grotte de Clamouse.

The Medusa is a large concentration of white concretions, some ten metres high, all by itself in a small corridor.

It was formed by the fusion of several large disks extending into vertical draperies.

Its profile is so unmistakeable that it was chosen for the logo of the Grotte de Clamouse.
